Hey everyone and welcome back to blogmas!
I am TERRIBLE at baking and cooking so I thought it would be fun to try and make some gingerbread men for my family this Christmas! They looked a bit rubbish but tasted really yummy! If you’d like to bake something similar, keep on reading to find out the recipe I used!
What I used:
- 350g Plain Flour
- 1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
- 2 tsp Ground Ginger
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 250g Butter
- 175g Light Brown Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 4 tbsp Golden Syrup
- Icing to decorate
Step 1 ~ Place the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon into a bowl and mix. add the butter and mix again until the mix looks kind of like breadcrumbs. And then stir in the sugar as well.
Step 2 ~ Beat the egg and golden syrup together in a different bowl, afterwards add to the the first bowl and ix again until the mixture clumps together. Then you can tip the dough out, knead briefly and eave for about 10 minutes.
Step 3 ~ A the same time, preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4 and line two baking trays with grease proof paper.
Step 4 ~ Roll the dough out quite thinly (which I didn’t really do whoops) on a lightly floured surface. Using cutters, cut out your shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between them otherwise they might stick together! I did gingerbread men and these shapes that sit on the side of your cup of tea, coffee or hot choc!
Step 5 ~ Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden-brown! Leave on the tray for 10 minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling. When they have cooled decorate with the icing and cake decorations or whatever you fancy!
These are the final products! They don’t look very good but I really enjoyed making them and they do taste pretty good!
